After a successful month of biking in Milford, the city is gearing up for its Bike Month Finale on Saturday, May 30.

Mayor Ben Blake invites and encourages all residents and cyclists to join the East Coast Greenway Alliance and the city for a ribbon cutting formally opening the first contra-flow bike lane in Connecticut.

The ribbon cutting will be held at the entrance of Shipyard Lane and Harborside Drive, behind Wilcox Park at 5 p.m. Refreshments and free valet bike parking will be provided compliments of the East Coast Greenway Alliance.

Milford officials said they are excited to be integrated into the East Coast Greenway trail (ECG). The ECG is one of the nation’s longest biking trails, stretching from Calais, Maine to Key West, Fla. Of the 2,900 miles of trail, approximately 11 miles runs through Milford. The ECG is a traffic-free biking trail, serving all ages and abilities.

Immediately following the ribbon cutting at 6 p.m., Milford City Hall will host Colleen Kelly Alexander, a survivor, thriver, motivational speaker, and biking enthusiast. She will tell her inspirational story about her struggles and the adversity she overcame, including a life threatening biking accident which  drove her to run more than 50 races and compete in 15 post-accident triathlons.

To register for the talk, RSVP to BikeMilford@ci.milford.ct.us.  Space is limited and seats will only be available that evening on a first come, first serve basis. Bike valet parking will also be available at City Hall.
