A Winter Storm Watch has been issued from late Wednesday night through late Thursday night for Milford and the rest of the area.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the approaching storm could bring 4 to 10 inches of snow to the region, with the higher amounts expected away from the coast.
“Snow will develop late Wednesday night and will continue during the day Thursday before tapering off Thursday night,” the NWS said in an alert issued Tuesday.
“Snowfall will make travel treacherous on Thursday,” the NWS warned.
All snow inland, some rain on coast
From 6 to 10 inches of snow are expected inland. Along the coast, 4 to 8 inches are expected because the snow could change to rain during the day on Thursday before switching back to snow at night, the NWS said.
Temperatures should be in the upper 20s inland, so farther from the shoreline there now appears to be less chance of rain or a wintry mix being part of the storm.
Temperatures along the coast should be in the lower 30s.
Roof collapses are a concern
According to the NWS, the storm will bring “heavy, wet snow [that] may cause some weak flat roof structures to collapse and trees will be susceptible to falling.”
Winds should pick as well. The forecast calls for sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 30 or 35 mph, during the storm. Winds should be slightly stronger near the coast, the NWS said.
