A man pretending to be from the water company, as well as another man, are being sought in connection with what police call a distraction burglary that took place today at about 2 p.m. at a home in the area of Orange Avenue and Pullman Drive.

Police said a suspect gained entry into the residence by telling the homeowner he was from the water company. Once inside the home he requested the homeowner show him a specific area of the home and asked the homeowner to turn the washing machine on to check the water color, claiming natural gas had mixed into the water system.

“The man eventually exited the home through the basement,” police said. “The homeowner noticed another male inside the home as he and the suspect were exiting. He confronted the male at which point both males left the residence on foot southbound on Orange Avenue.”

The suspects are described as white males in their thirties wearing blue jeans, one wearing a jacket with a lanyard (possibly a fake water company ID) and a mustache.

It is unknown at this time if any valuables were taken from inside the residence.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Milford Police at 203-878-6551 or Detective Michael Moreno at mmoreno@ci.milford.ct.us or 203-878-4729.
