A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for Fairfield County and surrounding area with high heat and possible thunderstorms through the weekend. The thunderstorms could be capable of producing torrential rainfall and localized flash flooding.

An excessive heat warning, upgraded from an excessive heat watch, is in effect until 10 p.m. on Sunday.

Heat index values Friday through Sunday could reach 105 to 110 degrees.

Overnight lows will be at about 80 degrees.

The combination of heat and humidity will increase the risk of heat-related health issues especially for the elderly, chronic health problems such as lung and heart disease, and those working outdoors.

The National Weather Service advises to use air conditioning or go to a place that has air conditioning, check on vulnerable friends and neighbors and reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
