Abby the Lab was named an honorable leaper in this year’s event. Abby didn’t mind the costume, but she wasn’t too thrilled with the hat, her owner said.

This year’s annual Leprechaun Leap to raise money for the Milford Literacy Center consisted of 109 registered participants, who braved the cold water to help raise more than $15,000.

Center Director Tami Jackson said there were $10,500 in pledges, plus $4,200 from sponsors and $400 from schools, where students paid $1 to wear green on Friday. And funds are still coming in.

The water was 36.2 degrees on Sunday, when the Leap took place at Walnut Beach.

“This is our 10th Leap anniversary,” Jackson said, “And we’re celebrating 20 years with the Literacy Center. It’s a great year for us.”
