Nancy Paddock, president of the VFW Auxiliary Post 7788, said it is an “exciting change” to the bylaws of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its auxiliary that allows the “Ladies Auxiliary” to undergo a makeover and change its name to the “Auxiliary.”

“Because the gender makeup of our military veterans has changed over the years to include many more female service members, the Auxiliary bylaws have expanded to allow husbands, widowers, brothers, sons, grandfathers and grandsons to join the Auxiliary,” Paddock said.

The Travis C. Kitchen VFW Post 7788 Auxiliary looks forward to welcoming many new members to the organization. The basic eligibility criteria for membership in the Auxiliary remains the same: the military veteran is or was eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars as documented on his or her separation documents (i.e. DD-214). Those eligible for membership in the VFW are those who have received a campaign medal for overseas service; have served 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days in Korea; or have ever received hostile fire or imminent danger pay.

The Auxiliary applicant must be a citizen of the United States of America and at least 16 years of age.

The Auxiliary meets at the Travis C. Kitchen VFW Post 7788, 422 Naugatuck Avenue, Milford, on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Membership Chair Judy Hessberger at 203-877-2854 or Paddock at 203-675-7171.
