FI-news-MMThe City of Milford and the Milford Arts Council are partnering for further beautification of Milford’s downtown, this time centering on the train trestle bridge at River Street.

The city is looking for mural artists, and there are no constraints to theme. The artwork may be abstract or pictorial and should be inviting and engaging to residents and visitors, pedestrians and motorists, business owners and restaurateur, city officials said.

Artwork is to run along the length of the wall on both sides of the underpass. Artwork may be a single design or separate blocks of art. Artists may submit designs as individuals or as part of groups.

Submissions may be combined by the selection committee during deliberation.

Also part of the project, but not part of the call to artists, will be façade improvements including lighting enhancements and a welcome sign. Artists may want to consider how these elements might affect their design and may ask questions about the lighting.

Art designs are due by January 16. Submissions should be done to scale and best represent the finished work (i.e.: color versus black/white, media choice, etc.)

Deliberation will take place during January and February; requests for design changes may occur during this time period. The selection will be made public and the work will take place in early spring based upon weather and schedule between the artist and the City of Milford.
